Free Motion Mavericks - Week 96 - How to Quilt Rudbeckias

Egg yolk yellow makes the perfect background colour for one of my favourite free motion designs.  This photo shows a small section of the free motion sampler quilt that I recently completed.

This week I have made a quick sample piece so that I can share this design.  So I now have page 2 for a pattern book, and a new video.

Making the video was a little less eventful than it was last week.  Rather than using two layers of thermal curtain lining, I used curtain lining for the backing and laid a piece of calico on top.  Less bulk to stitch through, so the thread didn't break once!

Here goes for week 96...

The projects in Week 95 that caught my eye were Janine Marie's two gorgeous quilts made for the Hands2Help Challenge - here is one of them catching the sunlight beneath a dramatic sky.   If you haven't seen her blog post yet, nip over now and see more photos.

If you love free motion quilting, whether you are a beginner just taking the plunge, or you have reached the stage where you can do ostrich feathers with your eyes shut and still achieve perfect symmetry, then please link up.

Remember, FMQ is FMQ, whether your machine was made last week, or it is older than your granny.

Here are the very easy and slightly elastic rules:-

1.  Link up with any recent post, ideally from the last week but within the last month, which features a free motion quilting project, whether it is a work in progress or a finish.

2.  Link back to this post in your own post and/or grab the linky button for your blog's sidebar.

3.  Visit as many of the other participants as possible and say hello in the comments box.

4.  The link up will remain open for four days, from midnight to midnight GMT for the long weekend, Friday to Monday.

So far quilters from the USA, England, Wales, Australia, Canada, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, France, Macau and Russia have taken part.  The first participant from each new country will get a special mention the following week.

  2. I'm so glad I found you again! On Monday I saw your video for the oak leaf. I knew it would be perfect for the log cabin quilt I am making for my nephew's graduation gift. It looks great on the quilt! I am about half done and already have plans to use it again. I wanted to thank you for showing how to do the design but couldn't remember where I found it. Today I was checking out Sarah's Whoop Whoop party and there you are. Thank you very much for showing how easy this is to do.

  3. I totally loved your video of the flower and think that I can use it in a charity quilt that I am finishing up! I had some spaces I needed to fill!
